Education & Training:
Our series of lectures and tutorials held at DIT , Aungier Street each month have been going very well with good student support. Upwards of 40 students sat ICS examinations during May 2017.
Examinations are now held twice annually this year in May and November.
Monies raised on behalf of ICS Ireland Education Trust Fund have been used during 2016 / 2017 for a number of key areas in the promotion and professional development of students applying for membership of the Institute.
March 9th 2017 saw students and members of ICS Ireland with a wide cross section of shipping , marine, logistics, legal and insurance professionals attend an ICS Ireland Education Trust fund sponsored seminar , facilitated at Dublin Institute of Technology , in conjunction with Thomas Miller & Co , UK P & I Club , ITIC and TT clubs on insurance , risks and claims handling in the container freight market entitled “Boxing Clever “ .
In 2016 we initiated a bursary on behalf of ICS Ireland. Monies allocated under the bursary went to two student applicants of the Institute in Ireland to assist with their course expenses for their studies during year 2016/2017. These students are now expected to sit ICS examinations during May and we wish them every success.
In June we will again invite bursary applications from students of ICS in Ireland. Awards will be made in August allowing students time to select study modules and prepare for lecture series recommencing September 2017.
Overseas Student Sponsorship:
Following on from The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Controlling Council meetings held in Dublin in November 2015, ICS Ireland undertook to sponsor a student from Southern Africa studying for their Institute membership. The encouragement and development of international relations with students and members is a key feature of ICS and our participation in this sponsorship during 2016 reflects ICS Ireland’s commitment to promote individual education and professional development, across all sectors of the shipping community worldwide, where the opportunity to study might not otherwise be available to the student.
